Avant-garde at the service of the exceptional

A holistic approach

A naturally holistic approach, to allow the expression of a plural terroir, nourished by a mosaic of sandy to sandy-gravel or clay-gravel Pomerol soils with the presence of iron dross in the subsoil.

He doesn’t want to lose sight of the fact that, thanks in part to its terroir, the appellation has always produced some of the most sensual and immediately charming nectars in Bordeaux.

Julien’s aim is to make a clean, precise and unique terroir wine, a Pomerol-style wine in which the Merlot and Cabernet Franc reveal the brilliance and freshness of the fruit.

“I want to be completely in keeping with the Pomerol heritage, with wines that are silky and full-bodied, but my work on the plant material, the soil, the barrels, the tuns or amphorae should make my strongly connected terroir wines a little brighter and even more vibrant.”

Julien Bidou

Julien is keen to make the most of this environment, which is conducive to producing great wines. The cellar, with its anthracite-grey walls and warm, elegant materials combining wood and glass, is a radical departure from what is usually found in this illustrious PDO.

A major and impressive room containing around sixty barrels from the best French cooperages, tuns and amphorae, hints at a great inclination towards research and development.

While Merlot is still the king of the country, it is a little less dominant here, with 60% Merlot, 35% Cabernet Franc and 5% Cabernet Sauvignon. This is a first side step, a differentiating factor in addition to the strong research and development dimension.

Between technology and preservation

A new generation

This attention to the ecosystem and a winery that he wanted to be a place for fine experimentation, with barrels from multiple origins, tuns and amphorae, give his project a surprisingly avant-garde hue.

Today, Julien is the flagship for a new generation that knows where it comes from. This young winegrower’s son is taking advantage of age-old know-how and a protected setting to infuse it with a dose of peasantry and craftsmanship.
